Import Requirements
1 Admissible Plant Parts: Tuber
2 Admissible Ports: All Ports
3 Subject to Inspection: If grown in Canada, this commodity is subject to inspection at the port of entry and all general requirements of 7 CFR 319.56-10.
4 Other Certificate Required: Accompanied by one of the following documents issued by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA):
  • A Canadian phytosanitary certificate issued by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA); or
  • An E3-Certificate of Inspection for Fresh Fruit and Vegetables; or
  • An Export Document for C-PIQ Establishments Fresh Fruit and Vegetables (CFIA/ACIA Form 5314); or
  • A Certificate of Origin for Potatoes (CFIA/ACIA Form 5565)
5 Date Restriction: For field-grown crops, the growing season is May 1 through October 31.
6 Production Location: Prince Edward Island (PEI)
  6.1 Federal Order: Federal Order DA-2022-14 [https://www.aphis.usda.gov/import_export/plants/plant_imports/federal_order/downloads/2022/da-2022-14.pdf], effective April 1, 2022, amends the entry requirements for importing potatoes from Prince Edward Island (PEI), Canada to prevent introducing potato wart (causal agent Synchytrium endobioticum) into the United States.
  6.2 Other: Certificate must include the following statement, "The potatoes in this shipment were grown in a field where potato wart is not known to occur and meet all requirements from the USDA Federal Order dated April 1, 2022."
  6.3 Other: Additionally, consignments must be accompanied by any export document with a statement detailing the sprout inhibitor treatment utilized and including the date of application.
7 Production Location: Potato cyst nematode (PCN)-regulated area; see the document at the following website: http://www.inspection.gc.ca/plants/plant-pests-invasive-species/directives/potatoes/d-96-05/eng/1323791878398/1323792597204#app3.
  7.1 Other Certificate Required: Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) will provide the following statement on the document presented: "The potatoes in this shipment have been cleaned and commercially packed in a CFIA-approved facility."
